This shirt hangs behind the bath room door. It’s an old shirt I bought Bernie over 20 years ago.
The collar is quite worn. It’s really only a rag now. He gave it to me a while ago.
It’s full of memories. Happy times. Sad times. Worse times. Better times.
It keeps me warm when there’s a chill in the air.
It reminds me of all we’ve been through.
It makes me smile to think of all we have in our future.
It makes him laugh when I wear it.
I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
I love this shirt.

I love you and Bernie and the glimpses you give me into your romance.
I think some of us are a bit jealous of how much he loves you.
Please tell more of these stories.
Maybe “how we met and fell in love”.
Penny, You and Bernie are so sweet together! I love how the two of you love each other!
I <3 this. A lot
I want one of those shirts!
That’s just too dang sweet!
My 83 year old mother lived in the depression era and would take that shirt and definately make it wearable again. She’d separate the collar band from the body of the shirt, leaving the collar attached to the band. She’d cover the roughened side with a contrasting material, tucking the edges under and topstitching it in place, then flip the collar over with the original side of the material showing on top and stitch it back to the body of the shirt. This would put the newly added material as the under collar, and your much loved, hopefully still good, original color showing on the collar top. Where there’s a will there’s a way, even though your button hole and button may be on the opposite side! Daddy, my two brothers and myself included wore quite a few shirts that moma had redone this way. She would also use some of the newer material to make a tab across the top of the pocket, or cover the cuffs and that would bring match the undercollar if she had enough to do that. A little work and a lot of love may give you and that shirt a few more years use, and a few more good laughs from your hubby!
I love this post and your old shirt.
