Pip, Zip, Peep!
May 31st, 2009Today is day 20 for my two broodies setting on eggs. The last time these two broodies hatched out their eggs between day 19 and day 20, so I’ve been checking on them a lot the past couple of days. And looky what I found a little while ago:
Those are eggs that Broody1 is setting on. And look what she’s got:
I think she’s actually hatched out six of her nine so far, but I had a hard time counting them and couldn’t get them all to come out. I didn’t want to mess with the ones underneath her too much for fear they’d trample on the zipping eggs. Cute little buggers, aren’t they?
Broody2 has only hatched out one of her four so far. And this is the sweet little face of her first born in this hatch:
Could you not kiss it’s little beak right slap off? Lordy. I just love baby chicks. If all of these eggs hatch, we’ll have 13 new little baby chicks running around. And I’ve got two more broodies due to hatch out four eggs in about two and a half weeks.
My parents get here tomorrow and I’m really happy my mom will arrive in time to see these babies still being babies. And she’ll get to kiss them - every clucking one of them.
Bee Free,
Penny

Okay. I dont think its fair to leave a comment that I can not understand. I mean, this is all about ME, yes? Im gonna go translate that. Hold pls. Awww…I think your blog is very well written, too.
Grandma, huh? How about grandma penny? Or wait, maybe nana penny…or even better, oma penny….. I kinda like the ring to those.
Really tho, that little chick is the sweetest thing ever. Makes me wanna come right over and climb in the coop and just hold them all stinkin day. That is so great that your folks are gonna be able to celebrate in the hatching of new chickies. Its not everyday that you get to do that. Youre such a good chicken mama. Those little chicks are gonna have a great home.

Frugalmom - Natürlich dreht sich alles um Sie, mein Freund
And don’t you “grandma” me young lady…..
We ended up with 9 baby chicks and my mom is just loving them. She loves to go the coop and hold the babies and kiss on them. They are sweet little buggers.

9 all together, huh? That sounds like a good number. Any wagers on how many will end up being roos???!!! Or should I say, how many roos are you hoping for?

Oh, I am with you, I love baby chicks. We hatch out a new batch every year. Yours are so cute.

Frugalmom - I am *hoping* for ZERO roos. But we know THAT’S not going to happen….. But I’m not going to fret about it until I am forced to deal with it. I figure I still have a few weeks….
Charlotte - would you believe I didn’t even pull out my camera a couple of days before mom and dad left??? I’m awful about that. Even my dad held a couple of the babies. It was really sweet. You’ll have to get over here to kiss on these babies. We should have 4 more within the next couple of weeks. And then I’m hoping we’re finished with it for this year!
Trixi - There’s just something about baby chicks that takes your breath away, isn’t there? I need to do something different next year - it’s getting a little out of control around here. At least that’s what Bernie, my sister, and Frugalmom tell me!

Your little peeps were adorable! I’m sure they are big chickens by now… I’ve been thoroughly enjoying your blog these last few days. I started reading from the beginning!
We bought our four acre farmstead in 2002, thankfully before the real estate downfall began. It’s been slow going for us, since we had four kids- two of them in diapers in the beginning.
I love your stories and sense of humor. Your husband sounds wonderful, very different from mine in some ways, but in others the same.
Best wishes!

Thank you for stopping by and leaving such a sweet comment Mary. You have a nice blog and it looks like y’all have a lot going on that farmstead! I love that you have cows.
