We finally have a deck. Yay! This deck will not only be a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet, it will be where I do all of my canning this summer. That will help keep the house much cooler on canning days!
That’s from the driveway looking along the front of the house. It turns at the end and runs along the side.
Between melting snow, rain, and deck construction I’m sure you can imagine the mud we have been dealing with the past couple of weeks. The deck has three sets of steps, and the shortest set is on the end closest the driveway. That set of steps seems to be the pups’ favorite – and the ground there was a muddy, clay filled mess.
If you look closely, you may be able to see the paw prints filled with water! It was raining when I took that picture. It was, in fact, raining when Bernie and I spent three hours outside this morning building a small landing from free pavers we got through FreeCycle. We also put gravel down to widen the driveway right up to the pavers.
As you can see, there is still plenty of mud to deal with in the yard, but I sure hope this helps to reduce the amount of mud we track into the house……
Even though it rained most of the day yesterday, Bernie spent it outside working on the goat barn. Our permits came through for “Farm Use”, so the goat barn will be 12′ X 24′ with a 8′ X 24′ lean-to. It is really coming along and although I *hope* sharing this won’t jinx it, we plan to pick the baby goats up next Saturday morning! Please keep your fingers crossed………

x
It will be nice not to have all that mud tracking through your house. Looks so good!
Oh YAY! I am so looking forward to baby pics.
I.am.so.jealous.
Really, you know I’m excited for you… in fact, on my next road trip to OH, I’m swinging by your place with a big ole jug of sweet tea so we can sit on your deck and watch your new goat kids play!!!
Thank you everyone! Oz Girl – come on down girlfriend!
I will be glad when Bernie gets done building around there. He can come help me put tin on the roof! The deck looks great.
Your deck is beautiful.
You are going to love that deck once the weather gets warm. Mud is everywhere – there’s no way to escape it.
Beautiful deck, Penny! We have mud here, too. We are about 4″ above normal in my area of Texas. I live on a part mud road, and it’s raining buckets today. Hope your mud dries soon and you can get your babies. My SIL and his dad are working on our chicken coop-can hardly wait!
Take care, my friend. Blessings!
Wow!! And Wow!! That deck is amazing. And huge. And amazing! You must be so excited to have that all done. Imagine all the warm, sunny nights sitting on that deck.
But, okay. Why do I see you hosing that deck down every night *after* youve let those chickens play on it all day??? (whens the last the last time you said “no” to one of your chickens, huh? )
How did I miss this post??
Tell B. that cyber friends are jealous of the deck he built. It’s beautiful, beautiful, did I say beautiful? He doesn’t do anything half way, does he?
We have mud too. Too bad we can’t set up one of those plastic baby pools full of water that the dogs would have to run through before coming in the house. Then all we’d have to clean up would be wet prints instead of muddy ones.
Paul – the addition you are adding to your cabin is completely awesome! Great job!
SVB – I have never seen so much mud! We had just gotten the grass growing well, and now it’s all mud again. Yuck.
Cotton Lady – You’re getting chickens!!!! YAY! I hope you’ll send me some pictures of the little fuzzy butts
Frugalmom – you are definitely a visionary because the first chicken we saw on the deck prompted Bernie to say “You are in charge of insuring this deck is poop free”…… uh oh…… Bernie wants to add gates for each set of steps so we can leave the dogs on the deck during the day and not worry about them running through the yard chasing chickens. I’m knocking on wood as I type this but… for some odd reason my chickens have always been good about NOT flying over fences, gates, and things of that nature. The surely *could*, but I’m lucky that blocking anything off seems to work with them. So far…… I guess we’ll see.
CeeCee – Thank you and I just love this deck too. But B didn’t build it. We hired a construction company. With all B has going on right now, there is just no way he would have time to build it anytime soon. The construction crew did in 7 days what would have taken Bernie all summer anyway! And yes! I wish there was some way to de-mud pups before they zip in the house! Oh!!! Maybe like a small drive-through car wash thingy they had to pass through before entering the house – wash, rinse, and blow dry as they walk through!
Мде …
