Hi Trixi - I bet your heart stopped when he got that chicken! I don't think our pups have a mean bone in their bodies - but they are extremely playful and, like your pup, I am worried they would end up catching a chicken out of that playfulness. They are so darn big I imagine they could cause some damage just trying to be playful! We watch them as closely as possible when they are out with the chickens - and they are definitely interested in them. I'm really hoping we can teach them to leave the chickens alone - and I think, in time, we can. But this puppy stage will last a while.......

I have been gone awhile and am amazed at how big the puppies have gotten. Our big baby got one of my chickens yesterday that was accidently let out during feeding. He didn't kill it but he did get quite the scolding. I really think he was trying to play with her.

Hey Frugalmom - I know! It amazes me how quickly these pups are growing - and I'm afraid they are no where near done. They are the sweetest dogs and nothing but big babies. They love to snuggle and are just so much fun. So I guess that will help when they are as big as horses.

Man, those pups are growing like weeds. I think one of their paws is as big as Darby!

I think relaxation is totally productive. Right? I mean it lets you get ready for the next big thing. (even if that next big thing is relaxation!)

Once again. Good looking eggs. They are so very pretty.

Hi Lilla - I can't believe how big these pups are getting! I am really curious about how large they will end up being. At just over 5 months, they are just over 40 pounds...... And I bet your citified dogs would figure out what to do with a deer skull lickity split! Our biggest battle is keeping things like that OUT of the house!

Hi Kelly - I can relate to the name that poop game - except we're usually trying to figure out what type of animal pooped the pile that one of the puppies just ate! Morels are usually found in spring - when day time temps reach in the 60s and don't go lower than the 40s at night. You can find them in damp areas around streams, rivers, creeks, etc. or in the woods - especially around fallen, rotting timber. We've had such an unusual spring here - we were in the 90s for a few days and now we're back to day time highs in the 50s. Some feel this may mess up the morels in this area this year - or possibly delay it. I have no idea - but we're not giving up yet!

Walks in the woods bring up mostly different types of poop for us. We play the "name the animal that poop came from game". It's fun and entertaining for the kids. LOL. We are looking forward to getting a couple of Lab pups to take with us on walks. The pug gets tried out easily. She is getting up in years. I have a question. Where are morrels found?

Sounds like a fun weekend. Dolly and Diesel are getting so big! I wonder if my citified dogs would even know what to do with a deer skull? Guess we'll soon find out...

Beautiful eggs!

Marmitetoasty - If I can find a whole deer skull for you, I will send it your way! Unfortunately, they typically have been out a while, and the lower jaw always separates from the upper. Dolly managed to grab the lower jaw yesterday - complete with teeth. She thought she had quite the prize. Our yard is littered with deer bones the two of them find while out walking. We make them leave the bones outside so they'll be there when they go out again.

Honestly - if they wouldn't fight so much and tear up the girls' backs, I'd keep every cockerel and rooster I could afford to feed. And if they layed eggs, all I would have is roosters! I love my roosters so much - but my poor girls can't take much more. The majority are already in chicken saddles. I'm going to try to keep one of the two cockerels and hope it works out. We'll see......
