Is There Room in Your Heart and Home?

As you know, Diesel and Dolly are rescue pups. They have been the most wonderful addition to our family, and I can not imagine life without them. We found our Diesel and Dolly through Petfinders. Our pups were nurtured and cared for by Our Critters, in Ararat, Virginia. Betty Sue runs Our Critters, and she asked me to pass on some info about dogs and cats at her rescue that are ready to adopt. I will forever be indebted to Betty Sue, Our Critters, and Petfinders for saving and caring for Diesel and Dolly, and so many other wonderful pets. I am happy to relay the following to you, and it comes with a prayer that each of these pets is adopted by a family that can provide the love and care that each of them deserves:

Goodness me, what a wonderful job these people do…….. I cant get over though just how cheap the dogs are to adopt…….. I know over here you cant adopt from the rescue centre for anything less then about $200…. thats the very cheapest…..

If I could find a dog that was good with chickens and children, cos of me job, then I would love a dog, my Jacob who is 15 is desperate for a dog….. but, its finding one that wont chase me chickens or eat me minded children lol

Marmitetoasty – good to see you! And I agree, these people provide a wonderful service and anyone that has checked into the cost of spaying and neutering a pet here in the US knows that the adoption fee is a lot less than they would pay to visit a vet for that service.

I do understand your concern for finding the right pup for your situation. We looked long and hard before finding Diesel and Dolly and felt they were a good mix for what we needed on our homestead. But, I work from home and Bernie is here pretty much everyday, so it’s easier for us to work with them and watch them around the chickens. I have heard many people say that the Great Pyrenees is a wonderful dog around chickens and children. They are quite large though – but I mention it as something you may want to look into that may work in your situation – if a large dog fits into your scheme. Maybe you can consult with Mable, Marble, Janet, and Cedric. I bet they have some thoughts on this ;-)

ETA: MarmiteToasty – I sent you quite a long reply to the comments in your last blog – and it’s not there! I must have done something wrong. Among the many things I told you is that I love your blog! I spent a lot of time looking through it yesterday and it made me smile, and even laugh out loud many times. What a fun blog you write! And after reading about your cooking and seeing all the pictures of the lovely dishes you make, I’m ready to pay your airfare over here! I think you would love it, but Mabel, Marble, Janet and Cedric likely would not – too many predators looking for a nice chicken meal :-(

Thinking a Pyrenees would be TOO BIG in my tiny little house and garden, what with 13 nippers and me lads and the chickens and 3 cats and the scorpion and bearded dragon and the trallantria (sp) spider and and and lmfao……

I would love just a shaggy medium size dog….

Goodness, I feel honoured that you read some of me blob posts :) …. Im humbled that you bothered…. but as you can see probably from the comments, I have a load of escapee patients from lunatic asylums visit and comment LOL….. its the comments that makes Twaddle fun, not me boring posts :) ….

I’ll pay me own airfare….. I do love to cook…. nowt fancy, just good wholesome proper grub..

Aww! Rescues/shelters are the BEST places to get animals because (I think) they remember that you rescued them and they are forever grateful. I got my stuff in the mail today and I can’t wait to use it tonight!! And Allie has been bugging me to make the brownies…we may definitely do that tonight.

MarmiteToasty – OK. The spare room is ready. And I’m hungry for wholesome proper grub. What time will it be served? And I do love your commenters – I get a big kick out of reading all of them.

Nicole – I’m so glad your Pay it Forward package arrived. I hope Allie likes the brownies. And I agree with you – our sweet little rescue pups are so full of love and fun. It truly is as though they know they’ve been “rescued” and sent to home full of love. I just can’t imagine being without them now. Let me know how your brownies turn out.

Thank you for posting about my rescue and the animals here. We are planning a run April 25th back to Northern VA to deliver more rescues to their new home. Last week we were up toward Manassas and we delivered 10 rescues to their new homes. We have new dogs listed. You can check those out on the animals for adoption page on our site at http://www.ourcritters.net !

Thanks again, and I enjoy reading your blog. The blog about the Rooster was hilarious. I used to raise Old English Game chickens to show. We also LOVED the fact they were pretty good layers. I had rooster named Herman who was a big pet. I had nursed him back from an injury and his owner had given him to me. He said it RUINED HIM LOL. He was very mean before I got a hold of him. Anyway he would escort me to feed my horses and he would hitch a ride in the feed bucket so he could munch of grain on the way down. He thought everyone was supposed to feed him LOL. He would come a running when he spotted someone with a bag, bucket hahaha. I can’t count the times people had screamed from the drive way thinking my rooster was going to attack them LOL. The minute their feet hit the ground he would come at them at a full trot. You should have seen their faces when I just walked up to him and scooped him up and loved on him!

Did I mention I miss my chickens LOL?
