I Could Learn to Like Snow With These Puppies

Diesel and Dolly haven’t been allowed outside without being on a leash until today. Today was a big day for them. They have finally learned to come back to us when we call them, so they were finally allowed to run around without being on a leash. And it was the perfect day for it. It snowed! And Diesel and Dolly LOVE snow. But before they were allowed to take off on their own, Bernie had a little chat with them and they promised to mind us. Diesel shook on it.

Diesel is so tiny, he has a hard time keeping up with Dolly. At first, she spent time with him and kept him close by.

He followed her around for a while, but kept looking over his shoulder to make sure we were following.

Before too long Dolly ran off without Diesel.

I don’t think I have one picture of Dolly without snow on her nose.

They played for quite a while, but it was quite evident when they got cold and decided it was time to go inside. Diesel sat in the snow, shivering, and looking up at us. Bernie had to pick him up and cuddle him to make sure he got warm.

And when Dolly had enough she simply hauled tail straight to the house. She even climbed the stairs for the first time ever!

Diesel and Dolly really love the snow, but I’m not sure they’ll care for the ice we’re supposed to get tonight. I am absolutely positive that Bernie and I won’t care for it – especially at midnight when we do the puppy poop run with them. And the poor chickens don’t care for any of this weather. They haven’t left the coop all day. I took them a few special treats during the day, but even that didn’t seem to help their mood. Puppies aren’t as moody about the weather as chickens.

Diesel and Dolly ended up getting sick over the weekend. By Sunday night they had pretty bad diarreha and we were a little worried about them. We took them to the vet Monday morning and learned they have a bacterial infection in their intestines. The good news is, the antibiotics the vet gave us for them started working right away. They slept so well last night that we actually had to wake them up to go potty at midnight and again when we got up at 5AM.

These little pups are doing great. I’m sure everyone thinks they have the smartest, sweetest, cutest pups in the world, but we really do. Seriously. You’d think so too, if you met them. They wouldn’t let you leave until you agreed. Diesel and Dolly are like that.

Snow! You got snow! That Diesel is way too cute. Especially in that pic with Bernie! They looked like they had a blast in the snow….and maybe its just me, but Bernie looked like he was having a good time, too.

So glad to hear that they are on the mend….sick puppies are no fun.

I have to tell you, Bernie has always been really good with our dogs, but he is usually more of the disciplinarian and I’m the softy. Not with these pups! He is just smitten with them. I end up correcting them far more than he does. He grew up training dogs – for hunting, obedience, and the show ring. So he’s great with teaching our dogs. But when these pups get into something they shouldn’t, he just can’t seem to be stern and I end up stepping in to be the bad guy. Too funny.

Both of these babies are just adorable. Dolly is so outgoing and in your face with everything. And she is sweet – but that little Diesel is just a lover. He’s so gentle and just loves to be held and loved on. And he gives great puppy kisses. These little pups are just too much fun!

Penny, I told Bob’O’ about your new family members,
and that we have a play date in a couple of weeks. that should be fun.
sorry to hear they got sick.
Bob’O’ did too when we first got him home.
It was the change in his food and water that got him,
but after a few days he was fine. well hope to see you soon.
    love charlotte

Hey Charlotte! Diesel and Dolly are excited about the play date and to meet Bob’O'!

When we first got them they had an upset stomach, but we thought it was the stress. We made sure to buy the same food they were eating at the rescue place. But by Sunday night, we knew something else was going on. The antibiotics seem to be doing the trick though.

What does Bob’O’ think of all this ice? These puppies are not impressed. They slip and slide everywhere. But they’ve been so good about pottying quickly and getting back inside!

Glad to hear the babies are all better now, We found Bob’O’ and split peas don’t like each other, I couldn’t believe that after he love the lemon he ate with you.
Bob’O’ had a time of it this morning. His feet kept going throw the ice on our back porch. But what was real funny was watching him trying to go to his spot out in the field. His feet kept sliding out from under him. I got to laughing at him and felt sorry for him that the same time, it took him a little while to get back to the house.I think he likes snow better. But he was ready big time to come to work today, By 10:45 he is all ways ready. What does get him is when we take the truck, he likes the jeep better, not so high of a jump for him.

    Hi Bernie and Penny.

Your puppies are super cute, we have 2 boxer puppies that are just about 4 weeks old, and we are in love, long story short my brother’s dog the mama had 8 puppies then got sick and couldn’t nurse them, they split the puppies up among family members and so we bottle fed them for a while and are now getting them used to food. We are keeping one and I guess when they are old enough the one we are not keeping will be sold.

I found your blog by the way of Plain and Simple Life blog on Blogger.
After reading about your puppies and looking at your shop I saw that you are in the Shenandoah Valley, We are too so I just had to drop in a say hello!!

    So Hello Neighbor!!

Hi Dana – I’m glad you stopped by neighbor! I just love boxers. Very cute and smart. It’s sweet the whole family could help out. I don’t envy you having to chose which to keep and which to sell, though! I bet they are just precious.

    Take care,
    Penny
