Things are getting back to normal since I returned from Germany. It’s a cold and blustery day here. Bernie and I bundled up and went outside to get the heater bases set up for the chicken and turkey waterers. I actually remembered to take my camera and get a few pictures to share with you.
Mirrie and Georgia were happy to see us. They are getting so big.
We’re finally fairly convinced we did indeed end up with one tom and two hens – even if the tom ended up being one we thought was a hen, and the hen ended up being one we thought was a tom. As a result, two of them got renamed. Jake is on the left (he used to be called Tanya) and on the right is Loretta (she used to be called Hank).
That’s Loretta on the left, Jake in the middle, and Sarah on the right:
It’s hard to believe how much they’ve grown. You may be able to get a good idea from this picture with Bernie’s legs in it:
This is Pretty Boy Floyd – the cockerel I kept from the hatch in May:
My poor hens are finally starting to come out of their molt. These two are the last of the molters, and just starting to get feathers in again:
This is one of the pullets from the May hatch – I love her coloring:
Bernie got a nice fire going in our new wood burner this afternoon.
Elvis kept warm by laying in the sun, across from the wood burner.
And Priscilla staked out her favorite hiding place on top of the curio.
And Diesel enjoyed relaxing in the warmth of his bed.
Dolly has always enjoyed chilling in my chair, but since my trip to Germany I think she’s gotten just a little too comfortable in it.
It’s nice to be home and back with Bernie and all the critters. I missed them.

Turkey surprise! They look fantastic. The goats look very happy, too. I am thinking that fire sure felt good after a while outside in this blustery cold.
It’s been so fun learning about these Turkeys, Angie. They are really a joy. And the fire really does feel good – I don’t plan to leave it again until I have to go outside to tuck everyone in for the night!
There really is no place like home. Glad you had fun in Germany!

Well Penny it has certainly been a long time since I have seen you blog posts. Oh how wonderful that you now have goats and turkeys also. I want goats also and turkeys one day. I was wondering what breed of goat are Mirrie and Georgia? Are they easy to care for, how often do you vaccinate them, etc… How about the turkeys? what breed are they? they are beautiful!
Glad you are dong well and had a nice trip to Germany.
How is Duke doing? My Jack is still with me, he is just not the alpha any longer. He has been replaced with one of the ones that hatched out in 2009. Jack is a Daddy though to many little chicks that hatched this summer. 18 hatched out and Jack is the dad to just about all of them. His one son I named Duke, but I don’t know if I can keep him. He is quite aggressive and has put Jack in the isolation shed cause he beat the starch out of him and Jack is not a fighter, but can’t bear to get rid of my Jack.
Maybe I should email you so I could find out more about the goats because I have to opportunity to get some goats that are a week old now. (wont get to little older). They are twins and they have another doe that is still pregnant. I just don’t know how to castrate the males, cause I don’t want all the mess of the boys.
Take care
Lisa M.
I love that wood heater. I would so love one. We have a fireplace with the ugliest wood insert ever.
I love your turkeys. They have gotten so big. I can’t wait until we get some.
I am so glad you are home and glad you are blogging!!
