Bernie Rocks and Duke is a Bully
May 7th, 2010Look what Bernie did today.
He built gates for all three of the deck step openings.
Now the pups can go out unsupervised and bark at things and we don’t have to worry about them terrorizing goats and chickens.
Speaking of the pups terrorizing chickens, I must tell you that sometimes the chickens terrorize the pups. Dolly gets very excited when Bernie throws her frisbee off the deck for her to chase.
But sometimes Duke can’t stand to see Dolly having so much fun.
And she has to do some pretty fancy footwork to get past him.
She actually thinks Duke is her friend and wants to play. She’ll abandon that frisbee to play with her friend.
Dolly thinks Duke is the best playmate ever.
Duke chases her all over the yard.
When she gets tired of being chased and retreats, Duke lets out a crow that just about shatters windows.
Diesel excitedly watches the entire exchange.
And this is about as animated as he gets over the whole thing.
On second thought, maybe the gates are to keep Duke from getting at Dolly on the deck.

Bernie does indeed rock! Those gates look awesome. You and I are lucky to have such handy men. The Duke and Dolly action shots made me laugh. I was just waiting for Duke to steal that frisbee!

That is so funny about the rooster chasing your dog. We have a cat who likes us to chase her. Aren’t animals a hoot? Better than tv. Life on a farm is the best.

Hahahaha! That is one big rooster! Are you and Bernie ready to be adopted yet?

What’s so much fun, is that Dolly thinks it’s all a game.

Lilla - yes indeed! We are two lucky ladies!
WOTP - Thank you for stopping by! And I agree - watching animals is better than anything on TV!
Angie - We’re packing our bags
CeeCee - Poor Dolly. She honestly thinks Duke is her friend and wants to play. She just loves him - and is a little scared of him all at the same time. I just love watching them. I’m just glad she’s so quick on her feet - Duke seriously means to do her some damage. And she is just clueless. Bless her heart.

Yeah, I think we established many, many blog posts ago that Bernie rocks (but you do too, LOL!!)
Love the pics of the pups, and you made me laugh out loud with Diesel at the end.
Have a wonderful weekend guys!!

When I was a little kid, we had a rooster that would attack us when we went outside, so I can believe that Duke chases Dolly. I know it is fun to watch.

Oh this is great! I love how you captured the action with your pictures. I know just what you are talking about as my little Min Pin thinks that our rooster is his play mate too…. at least Chance is getting his exercise!
We had gates on the deck but Chance learned how to crawl under the boards and jump off the deck. So we just leave the gate open and let him play with his ‘friend’. There are times that the rooster gets the dog and the dog doesn’t learn. Our rooster isn’t as aggressive as he could be so Chance doesn’t get hurt just surprised. (its the electric wire on the pigs cage that he respects the most!!!)
I really enjoyed your pictures. :o)

Oh how I love it. I am so glad to see that Duke is still looking good. He is one handsome boy. Just gorgeous. It does Dolly good to run around with her special ‘friend’. Abby my Golden Retriever runs around while the chickens are out but none of mine pay her any attention. Rusty my Irish Setter will just lay down in the middle of them and still noone will even look his way.
I am excited that Duke is still with you. I just love him. He reminds me of my Jack. He has just decided in the last month or so that we are not friends and has attacked my daughter and put a nice bruise on her thigh, he has chased my son around the yard, and he put a puncture wound on my heel and after over a month it is still sore. But he is being challenged by JJ and I think that is why he is getting aggressive.

Ah ha ha ha!!! Great shots, Penny…. Dolly is incredibly sweet (if a bit clueless - lol) with her new “friend”. I was so tickled to see Duke expressing his rooster-ness, though, and it makes me smile to think that both Dolly and Duke are getting something important out of this interaction. Crow away, Mr. Duke…you’re still top rooster in my book!
Great work on the gates. Bernie is such a talented woodworker.

I love it when animals get along rather than trying to eat each other.
Thanks for your words on my blog. I appreciate that.
