The hawk was back yesterday evening, tormenting them through their run fence. My chicken run does indeed have a cover. If you look at the picture at the top of each page of this blog - that is my chicken coop and run. You may be able to see in the picture that it has netting over the complete run. That's a shrimp net and it works wonderfully. They are safe in the run, which is why they are currently penned in it. It's when they are out free ranging that they are in danger. They only free range now because they began feather picking/plucking when confined in the run last year. Free ranging has all but eliminated that issue. I know I can't keep them confined in the pen for very long. I hope the hawks find another source of food soon. Losing one or two is something I would have to accept. They’ve been penned up in the chicken run all day. This afternoon around 4PM, that stupid chicken hawk was back – sitting by the run, scaring them half to death. It could be a different one I suppose, but I suspect it’s the same one.
